Acura/TL is a sports luxury car Manufactured from 1995-2015. TL is short for touring luxury. Shortly after TL’s introduction, Acura began building them in Marysville OH. TL replaced the Acura Vigor. The Acura TLX replaced the TL. Researchers determined consumers were identifying more with models such as Vigor, Integra, and Legend than Acura. In an effort to increase Acura’s name recognition over its models, the decision was made to switch to an alphabetic naming scheme. For years more TLs were sold than any other Acura model; 750,000+ in the United States. Luxury cars are wanted not needed. Although extremely successful, TL struggled to find its identity. There was a steady increase in sales from 1995 until 2005; after 2005 a steady decline.
(1995-1998) TL has a non-transponder keyed ignition (Ilco part number HD103). The key code series is 5001-8442.
(1999-2003) TL used Honda Type 2A keyed ignition system. TLs were among the first cars in the US to use anti-theft transponder technology. The transponder key used was (Ilco part number HD106-PT), which was embedded with the Megamos (13) Fixed Code chip. The non-transponder service key was (Ilco part number HD103). The key code series is 5001-8442. On board programming is use to add 4 button keyless entry remotes to memory (FCC ID: KOBUTAH2T OR E4EG8D-444H-A).
(2004-2006) TL used Honda Type 4 keyed ignition system. The non-high security transponder key used was (Ilco part number HD111-PT), which was embedded with the Philips (46) (“V” chip) Encryption. (2007-2014) TL with Honda Type 11 or Type 13 Keyed Ignition Systems. Both types use Philips 46 (V) chip high security sidewinder transponder ignition and door key. The Ilco part number is HO03-PT. A 4 button keyless entry flip key (Part # 35113-TK4-A00 FCC ID: MLBHLIK1T) is available. The Service Key part number is HO01SVC. A special laser key machine is needed to cut this key. The key code series is K001-N718.
(2009-2014) TL with Honda proximity Type ignition system (4 button SMART PROX Part # 72147-TK4-A71 for Driver #1 & SMART PROX Part # 72147-TK4-A81 for Driver #2 FCC ID: M3N5WY8145) with a high security non transponder laser emergency key. Key fobs can be programmed with a diagnostic tool. A special laser key machine is needed to duplicate the concealed emergency key. The key code series is K001-N718.
